The Foothills are an acoustic trio based out of Chattanooga, TN, whose music fits into the diverse and exciting genre of Americana. Initially, Paul Hadfield and Vincent Beasley began trying out material at open mics around Chattanooga in the summer of 2017. Audience responses quickly led to a number of small gigs through the Fall at local establishments like Tremont Tavern, Cambridge Square and The Feed Co. Tony Neely joined the group early in 2018.
Taken together, the group brings a wealth of performance experience to the stage. Paul Hadfield is a veteran of the music scene and has been performing in a variety of ways since he was 11 years old. Originally from KY, Paul previously fronted the band Paul Hadfield & the McCoys and has played his original music in recent years to crowds stretching from Nashville to Atlanta, including local staples like Riverbend and Nightfall. Paul has been recognized locally multiple times by the Chattanooga Times-Free Press and has done recording projects in Nashville with Dolly Parton’s producer, Kent Wells. Paul also serves as the worship leader at Clear Creek Church. Vincent Beasley is a classically trained multi-instrumentalist who contributes fiddle, mandolin, dobro and background vocals. Vincent has years of performance experience in a variety of styles – rock bands, bluegrass groups, and even a university symphony. The Foothills are very excited to have recently added Tony Neely on bass. A well seasoned bassist with hundreds of live shows under his belt, Tony Neely has had the opportunity to perform with artists such as Matt Adler, Patrick Mayberry, Jake Leg Stompers, and more. He has recorded at esteemed studios such as The Parlor (Nashville), 800 East (Atlanta), and Splendid Studios (San Antonio). Most importantly, he is passionate about leading worship and has had the opportunity to serve at churches and Christian camps across the United States. In addition to his musical endeavors, Tony is an educator and published author.
The Foothills draw on a wide array of classic American musical styles and contemporary lyrical content in an effort to create a timeless musical statement that is also modern and relevant. Paul Hadfield’s songwriting and the group’s music regularly draws comparisons to notable Americana/Country singers like Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, and Chris Stapleton, and like those artists, delicately attempts to balance artistic integrity and popular appeal.
