“Unite. Wear White” founded by Second Life Tennessee (SLTN) and the Chattanooga Coalition Against Human Trafficking, serves as the local expression of National Human Trafficking Awareness Month. Event guests are asked to wear white as a sign of solidarity about human trafficking and to show hope and support for those who have been or who are being victimized by the crime. The event will take place on Jan. 19 from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. at the DoubleTree Hotel on 407 Chestnut St.
“’Unite. Wear White’ was created to expand overall awareness about the issue of human trafficking,” said Jerry Redman, chief executive officer for SLTN. “A well-informed community is a community that is prepared to fight human trafficking. Human sex trafficking is the world’s fastest growing criminal industry, and it is our duty to do everything we can to put an end to it.”
This year’s speakers include SLTN representatives and local partners. Event speakers will discuss the local, regional and statewide resources and initiatives that are in place to combat human trafficking.
“The more we know about the crime, the better we are able to recognize it,” said Aikins. “Our goal is to work together to strengthen the agencies and organizations that work together daily to end human trafficking. Through awareness and collaboration, we are able to reach more survivors, and ultimately, bring an end to this crime. ”
“Unite. Wear White” is open to the public, and there is no charge to attend. Doors open at 9:30 a.m., sponsor exhibits from various community partners will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 10 a.m., and again from 11 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. The event program will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 11 a.m.
