This class is all about getting you started making your own flavorful craft beer at home. During the class you will help make a five gallon extract batch of beer. We will steep some grains in water for flavor, add sweet malt extract, boil adding hops for a bitter counterpoint, cool it down, put it to bed and let the yeast do its work.

During the fun, the following will be covered:

  • Beer history and ingredients
  • Brewing methods and factors in making great beer
  • Equipment needed
  • Hands on brewing session

Best part? Once the beer ferments, we all meet back up and drink it together! Register HERE!

About the teacher:Mark Quering encountered hand-crafted beers for the first time during the 1980’s in the Great Northwest where he fell in love with the beer, the people, and the culture that surrounded craft brewing. After marrying, he began to dabble in home brewing with mixed results. Ten years and two kids later, he revisited his hobby armed with better ingredients, and more knowledge. Recently he started entering and judging homebrew competitions. In addition to being a home brewer, Mark is a former assistant brewer at McHale’s Brewhouse and enjoys geeking out on beer with members of our local homebrew club, The Barley Mob.

Mark lives in Soddy-Daisy with his lovely wife, two awesome children, and a weird dog in the shadow of Sequoyah’s cooling towers. He loves sharing the unique community and culture of craft beer with others. If craft beer is religion, he is an evangelist.
