Tennessee-based, figurative expression artist, W. Michael Bush, is the featured artist at area 61 Gallery during the Association of Visual Arts (AVA), eighth annual, city-wide Gallery Hop, on September 6th. Meet Michael, during an onsite painting demonstration focusing on topics inspired by the upcoming IRONMAN competition that will host 3,000 triathletes to the scenic city the last weekend in September. Area 61 Gallery is located at 61 E. Main Street, in the Historic Southside district of Chattanooga between Bluegrass Grill and our only boutique hostel and outdoor sportsmen’s basecamp, The Crash Pad.
Michael’s work, inspiration and subjects are diverse and he recently stated his view of art as “not being just a passing fad, it is his life.” Bush attended the Art Institute of Chicago, Instituto Allende in San Miguel Mexico and received his BFA from Ringling School of Art, Sarasota Florida. Bush spent twenty years with the motion picture industry as a scenic artist, working with noted films, such as: the Jaws series, Absence of Malice (starring Paul Newman and Sally Fields), Caddy Shack, Tank (with James Gardner), Firestarter (starring George C. Scott and Drew Berrymore) – just a few on his resume.
In 1991, he came back to painting and specifically abstract expression. In 2005, his desire for more narrative and the need to express beyond abstraction, brought Bush to his current style of figurative expressionism. He and his wife Madonna (also an artist), live and work among thirty acres of beautiful countryside on the outskirts of Bell Buckle, TN.
Please stop in area 61 gallery Saturday, September 6th during the 2014 AVA Gallery Hop to meet Michael and the other artists in residence.
