2018 Corporate Cup
October 12, 2018 @ 4:00 pm
Organizer: Operation Get Active, Phone:
Operation Get Active will host the inaugural Corporate Cup on October 12, 2018 at 4:30 pm at the newly renovated Miller Park in the center of downtown Chattanooga. The tournament will be a co-ed soccer tournament, featuring 3 player-versus-3 player matches in a round robin format. Participants will include members of local companies and small businesses. Teams will be made up of eight players. The Corporate Cup will serve as a fundraiser for Operation Get Active, with all funds directly supporting Operation Get Active’s flagship after-school soccer programming.
Operation Get Active (OGA) is a health initiative program that uses the game of soccer to encourage young people in Chattanooga to live active and healthy lifestyles. Programming includes twice-a-week after school-soccer sessions lead by trained OGA coaches in the fall and spring season. Schools where OGA operate are primarily located in under-served areas of the Chattanooga community. When OGA first launched in the spring of 2016, OGA operated in three elementary schools and reached two hundred children. For the spring of 2019, OGA projects that it will operate in twenty three elementary schools and reach over nine hundred children.
The cost to operate an OGA after-school program is $4,000 (per school, per semester). The Corporate Cup will have a fundraising goal of $8,000, which would provide enough funding for OGA to operate in two additional schools for the spring semester, or “season”. The Corporate Cup fundraiser is structured to include eight different teams, and each team will play three games in a round-robin format. Following the round-robin matches, there will be two semifinal matches and a final championship match to crown the tournament winner. Chattanooga Football Club themed prizes will be awarded to the winners of the tournament and to the highest fundraisers.
Peter Woolcock, director of OGA, is excited for the inaugural fundraising event. “After talking with our partners at the City of Chattanooga, local business leaders and seeing the wonderful renovation at Miller Park, we landed on this idea to have a fun soccer tournament for adults to play in and raise money for OGA,’ says Woolcock. “The fields we’ll be using are brand-new inflatable mini-soccer pitches. They’re perfect for this event and they will look awesome in the new Miller Park.”
Persons interested in registering a team should register online at operationgetactive.org/events or by contacting Marissa Guarneiri via e-mail at email@example.com. Registration is limited to the first eight teams. Registration fee is $150 per team, which will then go-towards their fundraising goal.
Jonathan Susman, open spaces and activation specialist with the city of Chattanooga said, “The Corporate Cup lead by the team at Chattanooga Football Club Foundation’s program Operation Get Active is a wonderful fit for the lawn of the brand new Miller Park; and we are looking forward to a fun-filled tournament for the whole community to come out and enjoy”
The inaugural Corporate Cup is open to the public, spectators are encouraged to attend the event and cheer for their favorite team. The event will kickoff at 4:30 pm on Friday, October 12 in the newly renovated Miller Park in downtown Chattanooga.
